Open Water Swimming is a test of endurance, courage, and connection to nature. Unlike pool swimming, it takes place in lakes, rivers, and oceans—challenging athletes with changing conditions and long distances. In Sri Lanka, with its stunning coastline and inland waterways, Open Water Swimming is a growing discipline that blends sport with adventure.
Open Water Swimming became an Olympic sport in 2008 (10 km marathon swim).
Sri Lanka has hosted coastal swim events and participated in regional competitions.
The Federation is expanding access to safe, certified open water venues across the island.
